GTA V shipments: the milestones reported by Take-Two
Reviewed: 2026-10-29
Shipped is not sold
Publishers such as Take-Two usually report units shipped, or sold in to retailers and platforms, and not the number of copies that players have bought. The two are close, but they are not the same measure. The milestones below use the word shipped for that reason.
The milestones
One of the first figures reported was 33 million units and roughly 1.98 billion dollars in estimated retail sales, according to GamesBeat. The same report notes that Rockstar launched Grand Theft Auto Online in October of that year.
Take-Two reported 150 million units shipped in its first fiscal-2022 quarter results (TweakTown), up from 145 million the year before.
In its second fiscal-2024 quarter, Take-Two reported 190 million units shipped (TweakTown), and by March 2024 the game had shipped 200 million copies worldwide (TweakTown).
How to use these numbers
They are useful for comparing the scale of a game over time, not for predicting the next one. Later totals may exist; check Take-Two's latest earnings release for the current figure.
We do not state figures for GTA VI because none have been published.
