World Capitals: how to play

World Capitals is a multiple-choice geography quiz. Each game names ten countries, one at a time, and you pick the right capital out of four. The list covers Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa and Oceania, and every game draws a fresh random selection.

Controls

Click or tap the capital you think is correct. Nothing else is needed: no timer, no dragging, no shortcuts. After you answer, the right option is highlighted and the next question appears by itself. New game reshuffles the questions at any time.

Rules

  • A game has ten questions, and no country repeats within it.
  • Each question offers four capitals and only one is correct.
  • You get one attempt per question; if you miss, the right answer is shown.
  • Your score is the number of correct answers out of ten.

Tips

  • Wrong options usually come from the same continent, so rely on what you know about the country.
  • Be wary of the biggest city: some capitals are smaller than the best-known city of their country.
  • Note the capitals you miss; the same countries return in later games.

How to study capitals

Short, repeated sessions beat one long marathon. Group countries by region and learn them as neighbours, then test yourself with a game. Pairing a capital with a fact, such as a river or a neighbouring country, helps recall under pressure.

Scoring and accessibility

The result screen shows your score out of ten and your best is kept as your record. A perfect game pays 100 coins in total. Answers are large buttons for finger or mouse, and feedback uses both colour and a text message.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a time limit?

No. Think as long as you like on each question.

How many coins do I earn?

5 virtual coins per correct answer, plus 50 more for ten out of ten. Coins have no monetary value.

Does it cover every country?

No. Cases where the capital is disputed are left out, so it is a selection rather than a complete atlas.
