FreeCell: how to play
FreeCell lays all 52 cards face up in eight columns, so every win comes from planning rather than luck. You have four free cells as temporary storage and four foundation piles built by suit. Gamemur deals a new random game each time and saves your fastest win.
Controls
Tap a card to select it, then tap the column, free cell or foundation where it should go. Tap the selected card again and it moves to the best spot by itself. If you pick a run, the game checks you have enough free cells and empty columns to carry it. Everything can be reached with Tab and activated with Enter or Space.
Rules
- Eight columns hold the cards: four with seven, four with six.
- Each free cell holds exactly one card.
- Stack cards in descending order, alternating red and black.
- Foundations rise by suit from ace to king, and any card or valid run may go onto an empty column.
Tips
- Locate the aces and twos at the start and dig towards them early.
- Keep at least one free cell open; two empty cells let you move three cards at once.
- An empty column often outweighs a free cell, since it multiplies how many cards move together.
Buttons and rewards in Gamemur
Undo keeps up to 300 steps. The foundation button sends every card that can legally rise to its pile, repeating until none can. A win gives 120 virtual coins, which have no cash value and are used only inside Gamemur.
Phone and keyboard
Tap-to-select avoids dragging, so one finger is enough. Cards shrink to fit eight columns and the selected card is highlighted. Cells, empty columns and foundations have text labels for assistive technology, and focus stays in place when the board redraws.
Frequently asked questions
How many cards can I move at once?
One per empty free cell, plus one, doubled for every empty column. With two empty cells and no empty column, three.
Is every deal winnable?
Most are, but Gamemur does not verify deals. If you get stuck, undo or start again.
What does the hint do?
It selects a legal move, favouring one that goes to a foundation, and says where to put it.
