Four in a Row: how to play
Four in a Row is a two-player game on an upright grid of seven columns and six rows. Players take turns dropping a disc into a column, and gravity makes it fall to the lowest empty slot. On Gamemur you play yellow against the computer, on an easy or hard level, and move first.
Controls
Tap or click any cell in a column to drop your disc there; you do not need to aim at a row. The computer replies after a short pause and a status line shows whose turn it is. Winning discs are highlighted. Each cell is a button labelled with its column number. Changing level restarts the game.
Rules
- The grid has seven columns and six rows.
- On your turn, pick a column; the disc falls to the lowest free space.
- Four discs in a line, horizontal, vertical or diagonal, win.
- If all 42 spaces fill with no line, it is a draw.
Tips
- Open in the centre column: it belongs to more possible lines than any other.
- Build two threats at once, so the computer can only block one.
- Avoid filling a space if it hands your rival the one above it.
- Check diagonals before blocking; they are the lines people overlook most.
Thinking in threats
Games are usually decided by threats rather than single discs. A threat is an empty space that would complete four for one side. Note which spaces would win for you, and which you must not fill because they give the space above to your opponent.
Easy, hard and quick rounds
Easy blocks obvious wins but misses deeper plans, so it is good for practising double threats. Hard punishes an unguarded three. The computer waits with no time limit, and New game starts a rematch at once.
Frequently asked questions
Who goes first?
You do.
How strong is the computer?
Easy looks only a couple of moves ahead and adds randomness, so it can miss threats. Hard searches several moves deeper.
Is my level remembered?
Yes, the last level you chose is kept on your device.
Are there rewards?
Winning pays 30 virtual coins on easy and 80 on hard. They have no monetary value.
