Word Search: how to play

Word search hides a list of words inside a grid of letters, and your job is to spot them all. Gamemur generates a new 12x12 grid every time from four themes: Video games, Animals, Countries and Food. It times each puzzle and keeps your best time.

Controls

With a mouse or finger, press the first letter of a word and drag to the last; the selection snaps to a straight line. With the keyboard, move with the arrow keys, press Enter or Space on the first letter and again on the last, and Escape cancels. Found words are highlighted and crossed off the list.

Rules

  • Each puzzle has a list of up to nine words hidden in the grid.
  • Words run in a straight line: horizontally, vertically or diagonally.
  • They can read forwards or backwards, so all eight directions are possible.
  • The puzzle is finished when every word on the list has been found.

Tips

  • Scan first for rarer letters such as Z, X or Q, which narrow down candidate words quickly.
  • Search row by row, then column by column, and only afterwards the diagonals.
  • Remember that words may be reversed; reading a row from right to left reveals many of them.

Reading the grid efficiently

Pick one word and look only for its first letter, then check the eight neighbours of each candidate. Crossing out easy words early shortens the list. If you are stuck, switch to a word with an unusual letter pair instead of re-scanning the same area.

Themes, time and coins on Gamemur

Words come from your chosen theme in the page language, and the grid uses that language's alphabet, so the Spanish version includes Ñ. Finishing records your time in minutes and seconds and gives 50 virtual coins, which have no cash value.

Frequently asked questions

Are the grids always the same?

No. Each game builds a new grid with randomly placed words from the theme you pick.

Does my time count?

The timer runs from the moment the puzzle appears until you find the last word, and the best time is saved.

Is there a reward?

Finishing a puzzle gives 50 virtual coins. They have no cash value and are not earned through ads.
