Mahjong Solitaire: how to play
Mahjong solitaire is a matching puzzle on a pyramid of stacked tiles. On Gamemur you remove identical pairs until the board is empty. Our tiles combine six shapes with six colours, giving 36 easy-to-tell-apart faces, and a timer records your best time.
Controls
Tap or click a free tile to select it, then a second free tile with the same face to remove both. Tapping the selected tile deselects it. The toolbar shows time and tiles left, with Hint, Undo, Shuffle and New. Each tile is a button labelled with its shape and colour.
Rules
- The board starts with 110 tiles in five layers.
- A tile is free when nothing lies on top and its left or right side is open.
- Only two free tiles with the same shape and colour can be removed.
- Clear every tile to win; with no free pairs left you are stuck.
Tips
- Attack the upper layers and long rows first, as they hide the most tiles.
- When several identical tiles are free, pick the pair that uncovers the most new ones.
- Save Shuffle for when no free pairs remain.
Reading the layout
A tile at the edge of a row is often free, while those in the middle stay blocked until a neighbour leaves. Find the tiles blocking the most others and plan how to release them.
Timer and visibility
The clock runs only while the page is visible and stops when the board is clear; your best time is recorded. Hints and shuffles add no penalty. Each face combines shape and colour, so you can recognise a tile by either, which helps if colours are hard to distinguish.
Frequently asked questions
Is every deal solvable?
Yes. Boards are built by removing free pairs in reverse. That does not mean every sequence works: a bad choice can still leave you stuck.
What does Shuffle do?
It re-deals the faces of the remaining tiles, again guaranteeing a solution, and clears your undo history.
Does Hint play for me?
No. It briefly highlights one matching free pair.
What do I get for finishing?
120 virtual coins, which have no monetary value.
