Mine Finder: how to play

Mine Finder is a minesweeper-style logic game: uncover every square without a mine, using the numbers as evidence. Gamemur has three board sizes and a timer that starts on your first tap. A counter shows how many mines remain unflagged, and you can restart a board at any time.

Controls

Click or tap to uncover a square. To flag one, right-click, hold for about half a second, or switch on Flag mode and tap. Click an uncovered number whose flags match its value to open its remaining neighbours at once. By keyboard, Tab into the board, move with the arrows and uncover with Enter or Space.

Rules

  • Each number counts the mines in the eight surrounding squares.
  • A zero opens its neighbours automatically.
  • Uncovering a mine ends the game and reveals them all.
  • You win when every mine-free square is uncovered.
  • The first tap is never a mine, nor is any square touching it.

Tips

  • A 1 with one covered neighbour left means that neighbour is a mine.
  • Once a number has all its mines flagged, uncover its other neighbours.
  • Compare adjacent numbers: when one covers the same squares as another plus extras, the difference exposes safe squares.
  • Flag only what you have proven, since the neighbour-opening shortcut trusts your flags.

Board sizes on small screens

On narrow screens the Hard board turns into 16 columns by 30 rows, and squares shrink to fit the page width, never below 24 pixels. The level you choose is remembered for your next visit.

Timer and accessibility

The clock starts at your first uncovered square, so you can read the board calmly beforehand. Keyboard players can reach every square, and each covered square announces its row and column to screen readers. Flag mode helps when squares are small for your finger.
